Three methods, ascending in effort and appearance — plus the code rule most people break unknowingly.
A cleanly mounted TV with cables dangling below it undoes most of the effect. There are three practical approaches.
A slim plastic or metal channel fixed to the wall surface, carrying the cables from TV to source. Adhesive or screw-fixed, paintable to match the wall.
Underrated. On a masonry wall, in a rental, or where the wall cannot be opened, this is usually the right answer rather than a compromise.
Cables run inside the wall cavity between two cut-in plates, one behind the TV and one behind the media unit. This is the invisible result people picture.
The code rule. HDMI, optical and speaker cable can generally be run in a wall cavity, ideally in-wall rated (CL2/CL3) for fire safety. A standard TV power cord cannot. Running the moulded power cord through the wall violates electrical code in most US jurisdictions, can void insurance, and is flagged in home inspections.
The compliant solution is an in-wall power extension kit: a recessed outlet behind the TV, fed by in-wall rated cable from a new inlet near the existing outlet below. Kits are widely sold, cost $60–$120, and are designed precisely for this. Where an entirely new circuit is needed, that is licensed electrician work.
Tall furniture directly beneath the screen, a cable sleeve gathering everything into one soft tube, or accepting a short visible drop between screen and console. Zero cost, zero risk, and for many rooms perfectly acceptable — particularly with a dark wall and dark cables.

Plan cables before hanging the TV. With a fixed mount there is often no access behind the screen afterwards, and taking it down to add one cable is a genuinely irritating afternoon.
